The most important function of HR (or People Teams as I like to call them) is to think strategically about engaging, developing, and retaining great people. Risk, policy, handbooks, and rules should be broad in order to give people space to excel and to achieve great things, not robust and restrictive. 99% of “personnel issues” can be overcome by connecting people to the mission of your organization and creating programs that truly reward and motivate them.
